A TRIP TO THE WEDGEWOOD FACTORY
I took a trip to the Wedgewood Factory to meet Keith Brymer Jones, and this happened......!
I’m told it’s good to get out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to trying new things. I haven't attempted clay since I made a monstrous brick ashtray in school.
So enter Keith Jones, pottery guru and absolute legend who guided me through the weirdness of the wheel with his brilliantness & enthusiasm. Under his watchful eye, with a LOT of help & a few laughs I managed to throw my very first pot. I loved every messy, squishy second, and honestly, doing something new felt amazing. I may not be quitting my day job just yet, but there's nothing like a bit of wet clay to remind you: that trying new things is so, so good for the soul. In true Keith style, I almost cried I was so happy, I can't wait to do it again!
Thank you Keith & thank you to the amazing team @dryadeducation for hosting this utterly uplifting workshop at World of Wedgewood, you can see my video here
The Wedgewood Factory near Stoke on Trent offers tours of the factory for visitors. There’s also a brilliant museum which takes you on a journey through the V&A Wedgwood Collection galleries to discover the history of Josiah Wedgwood. There’s all the history and innovations of ceramic ware, the designs, and patterns produced from the 18th century to the present day. It's a great day out and a real insight into how Wedgewood is designed created and crafted. They also do a bloomin’ great lunch of homemade soup with a sarnie alongside very elegant chips (possibly handcrafted as well) in the famous Wedgwood Tearooms.
