Oil sticks are fun to use and a great introduction to getting started with oil painting projects. 

Oil sticks are pure oil paint (like you would get in a tube of oil paint) but in a bar, you can hold in your hand. I provide protective gloves if you prefer - lots of artists do. So, the workshop will introduce how to get started with them as a beginner, using odourless mineral spirits to create washes of oil colour as well as using them straight from the stick for thicker applications. We use hog hair oil brushes & lots of techniques for different applications.

This workshop is a great opportunity to learn some oil painting techniques and all doable due to the ease of the oil stick. We’ll be working on a series of different landscape & seascape ideas and looking at Monet's beautiful waterlily art too!

This workshop is set at the beautiful Stem & Green Flower Field in Easton, Hampshire SO21 1EQ The workshop will begin with the opportunity to select your own dahlias from the flower field. I will then take you through my painting process step by step with lots of fun hands on tuition. You will get to try all sorts of mixed media art materials to capture the beauty of and fun of dahlias.

I’ll show you how to doodle wild grasses, seedheads and flowers step by step to create your own seasonal design. Painting on paper as well as greetings cards and gift tags. There’s plenty of autumnal wild nature and folklore from our very own garden designer and nature writer Nic !
