We have Just finished the most fantastic art project supported by Jamie Oliver and Chris Bianco. It started with a commission for this Peter Blake inspired painted Bollard to add to the exisiting collection in The Square Winchester. We then worked with twenty year 10 schoolchildren from Kings, Henry Beaufort and The Westgate School in Winchester to create some colourful artworks of their own.
For the schoolchildren, the day started with a look at the painted bollard commissioned by the chefs and painted by myself and colleague Rachael Alexander. The design is inspired by British pop artist Sir Peter Blake and reflects the pop art design of Winchesters uniquely decorated Union Jacks.
The project included a special preview of the Union Jacks bollard, a tour of and hands on session making pizza at Union Jacks restaurant followed by an art workshop in our beach garden workshop at The Colour Factory Studios.
The local school children met top chef and co-founder of Union Jacks, Chris Bianco,as well as having an inspiring talk by Dennis Duncanson (one of Jamies original Fifteen chefs) and had a guided tour with restaurant manager Tom Cousins. In line with the chefs’ ethos of encouraging healthy eating and inspiring young people they made their own flat bread pizzas, using fresh locally sourced ingredients. The day concluded with a workshop session at The Colour Factory with myself and fellow artist Rachael Alexander where they created their own pop art inspired masterpieces now on display at Union Jacks Restuarant in Winchester.
The Chefs have also bought a few of my retro inspired paintings which are also on display in the funky interior of the restuarant! Take a look at the gallery of photos below!
